I would rather travel alone than with a group of people. Not only because I'm an introvert but mainly because solo traveling is a form of self-care. Secondly, most of my friends aren’t able to travel as often as I can and if they do, they don’t like wild adventurous activities like skydiving in Dubai or swimming with whales in the Philippines. So why not do it alone? Life is too short to wait on others to do the things YOU want to do. So take that solo trip!
As I'm writing this blog, I'm currently exploring my 33rd country solo so I’m going to share the countries in which I felt the safest.
But wait, before reading this please check out my post where I share tips on how to travel safely! Rather you are in a group or solo, these tips will be helpful for your next vacation!
Tokyo, Japan
Level of Crime: Low (little to no crime)
Safety Walking Alone: High (very safe)
I spent 4 amazing months in Japan exploring each major city on the island. From the delicious Udon noodles to the beautiful scenic views, Japan's culture is just simply remarkable to the point where it was the only country I felt safe enough to run outdoors at night.
Montego Bay, Jamaica
Level of Crime: Moderate (neutral)
Safety Walking Alone: Moderate (neutral)
I’ve been to Montego Bay about 18 times in the last 3 years. Not just to purchase my first international rental property but because I absolutely enjoy the hospitality, I experienced each time.
ST. Lucia
Level of Crime: Moderate (neutral)
Safety Walking Alone: High (very safe)
I was attacked by mosquitos but loved by the locals, literally. I spent 7 great days on this little lovely island where I took shots, exercised, and dined with my tour guides. I was even invited back to one of their baby showers which took place the following year. If you’re looking for a vibe, this is the country to go. Just make sure you bring mosquito repellent.
Denpasar, Indonesia
Level of Crime: Low (little to no crime)
Safety Walking Alone: Very High (extremely safe)
Just like St Lucia, my tour guide treated me like family. Unlike Japan, I wouldn’t recommend walking at night due to wild snakes roaming around. Other than that, Denpasar was the only city I felt safe enough to rent a motorcycle and drive during my entire stay.
San Salvador, El Salvador
Level of Crime: Moderate (neutral)
Safety Walking Alone: Moderate (neutral)
El Salvador was the first group trip I took but I still felt safe due to the fact that it was surprisingly so peaceful. Check out my El Salvador trip here.
Aruba
Level of Crime: Low (little to no crime)
Safety Walking Alone: Very High (extremely safe)
I spent my 25th birthday in Oranjestad, Aruba. Although it was during COVID, the people were helpful and caring.
Luxor, Egypt
Level of Crime: Moderate (neutral)
Safety Walking Alone: Very High (extremely safe)
Unlike Cairo, I felt completely safe and welcomed in Luxor. If you want to explore Egypt but do not want to be harassed, visit Luxor!
Thailand
Level of Crime: Moderate (neutral)
Safety Walking Alone: Very High (extremely safe)
I had the luxury of visiting Thailand's 4 major cities, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Phi Phi Island. In each city, the locals welcomed me with love. I plan on visiting them again in a few months!
